Michigan’s 2026 Open Enrollment: Key Changes & Chiropractic Coverage
If you plan to purchase or renew your health insurance for 2026, it’s important to know that Michigan’s ACA (Affordable Care Act) Marketplace is undergoing some major updates. These changes could affect both your coverage options and the care you receive — including your chiropractic benefits here at Logan Chiropractic Center.
Here’s what you need to know to keep your chiropractic care covered and your health protected in the year ahead.
1. Shorter Enrollment Window
Open enrollment in Michigan for 2026 runs November 1, 2025, through January 15, 2026.
However, beginning in future years, this window will likely shorten — ending by December 31. That means you’ll have less time to sign up or make changes to your plan, so it’s smart to start early.
Tip: Mark your calendar in early November to review your health plan and make sure your preferred doctors, including your chiropractor, are still covered.
2. Stricter Income and Eligibility Verification
The Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services (DIFS) has reduced the time to fix verification issues from 150 days to 90 days. This means you’ll need to provide accurate income and household details sooner to avoid losing coverage or subsidies.
If your chiropractic visits are covered through an ACA plan, this update makes it even more important to update your information promptly to prevent interruptions in care at Logan Chiropractic Center.
3. $5 Monthly Fee for Some Auto-Re-enrollments
Some individuals who are automatically re-enrolled into a $0-premium plan may now be billed $5 per month unless they confirm their continued eligibility. This new step ensures people intentionally maintain coverage — but it also means you should log into your HealthCare.gov account before the deadline to confirm your plan details.
Staying proactive ensures your chiropractic benefits remain active and uninterrupted.
4. Special Enrollment Periods (SEPs) Are More Limited
Starting in 2026, the low-income Special Enrollment Period (SEP) for people earning up to 150% of the federal poverty level is being paused. This means you’ll need to enroll during the normal open enrollment window unless you have a qualifying life event, such as moving, getting married, or having a child.
If you rely on chiropractic care for recovery or wellness, make sure your coverage doesn’t lapse — a missed enrollment period could mean a long gap in benefits.
5. Insurer and Plan Changes in Michigan
For 2026, some insurers are leaving the Michigan ACA Marketplace, including Molina and UM Health Plan (PHP).
If your plan is through one of these insurers, it may not renew automatically — and your replacement plan could have different chiropractic benefits or provider networks.
At Logan Chiropractic Center, we recommend confirming that your new or current plan includes chiropractic coverage and allows you to continue care at our office.

6. Possible Premium Increases and Tax Credit Changes
The enhanced federal premium tax credits that made ACA plans more affordable are set to expire at the end of 2025, unless extended by Congress.
If these credits are not renewed, many people could see higher premiums starting in 2026.
It’s wise to compare your plan options early and ensure you’re getting the best value — without giving up access to trusted chiropractic care.
